Rather than pouring over the API and changelog, download the free e-book <a href=" http://www.nomedojogo.com/2008/06/15/ruby-on-rails-21-whats-new-second-edition/" target="_blank">Ruby on Rails 2.1 What&#8217;s New</a>.</p>
<p>Written by Carlos Brando and available in English and Portuguese, this book iterates though the changes with special focus on the new functionality.</p>
<p>My favorite new change? <a href="http://ryandaigle.com/articles/2008/3/24/what-s-new-in-edge-rails-has-finder-functionality" target="_blank">Named Scopes</a>.  In rails 2.0, I was able to kludge together something that worked in a similar way. However, this is more elegant and allows me go back into my app and remove my ugly code <img src='http://blog.nickmessick.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' /> .</p>
