The hiker escaped with only minor injuries. He is very lucky, as this is the same park where a mountain biker was killed and another was severly mauled back in 2004.

Jessica and I have been to this area a few times, but we’d never made it all the way to the Bear Canyon Campground. We finally got there, and boy was it tiring. The hike was about 7.2 miles with ~500 feet or so elevation change. It’s wasn’t too warm, especially since the majority of Bear Canyon is in the shade. Another great thing about this hike is that most of casual hikers go to Switzer falls, so the Bear Canyon portion of the hike is pretty empty.

The photoset for our hike is here.
